How Are Relays Determined
Relays are comprised of the fastest possible combination of swimmers based on official seed times. All league teams have software that automatically picks the fastest relay teams.
For the Freestyle Relay, the four fastest available swimmers become the “A” relay for the meet, the next four become the “B” relay and so on.
For the Medley Relay, the computers will create the fastest combination of swimmers for the four strokes. In order for a swimmer to participate in the Medley Relay, they need to have a prior result in that stroke.
For most meets, we will create either two or three relay teams per group.
Special eligibility requirement for Champs meet:
- Swimmers cannot be considered “relay only” at Champs; they must enter at least one other individual event to swim on a relay
Final Tips for Relays
Swimmers should come to practice as often as they can to continue to improve.
Swimmers should compete at as many meets as possible to get better times.
Swimmers should swim in multiple events to improve the likelihood of swimming on either the Freestyle or Medley Relays.
If your swimmer has signed up for a relay and he/she unexpectedly cannot make the meet, please contact the team so that changes can be made as soon as possible. Contact the head zookeepers or meet director to let them know.
